Age Limit
Although there is no age limit to attend the California Hunter Safety course, you must check age restrictions on obtaining a license. Maturity and the ability to put learned concepts into practice are important. If you are thinking about taking your child with you on a hunting trip, now is a good time to put them through the Hunter Safety course. If you think you could use a refresher while thinking of putting your child through the course, please do so or your child WILL notice when you are being unsafe! It is the parent's responsibility to be the best role model.

How to Enroll:
Please see the Rates page for enrollment instructions. Pre-enrollment for all Gun Training, Gun Safety Training and Hunter Safety courses is required.

Hi Richard- It's Torie - got back from Cody, Wyoming last week. Yes-it did have a cold breeze all the time. Thanks for pointing that out-HA! Well let me tell you about my first hunt: we went to my area- most of the mule/white tail deer were on private land (How do they know?!)-but we spotted about 5 doe about 365 yards off the road- so my husband & I squat-crawled through a drainage ditch (luckily just long grass in it which helped camouflage us)& got about 150 yards away. Used shooting sticks in a squat-sit position. After catching my breath or at least trying to, I shot my first shot & missed -thankfully! They ran 50 yards or so to my right so we just readjusted & I shot her a little high but in the lungs so she went down 50 yards away. I cried as I watched her attempt to run, but after seeing my kids, sister & brother-in-law & their kids coming running across the field from the road- I soon realized I just brought meat to the table (BOY-is doe good-we got most of it ground & didn't add any soot) JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU- YOU'RE A GREAT TEACHER -very patient & knowledgeable. Hope our paths meet again -received the certificate -thank you. Take Care & God Bless! Torie

Comment:
Torie took both the California Hunter Education Course and the NRA Basic Rifle Course. She was an extraordinary student. Excellent shooting Torie! That's a beautiful Mule Deer doe. Thanks for the great picture and hunting story!

Richard, Thanks for the great hunter safety class which I took with my son Benjamin in August 2006. Benjamin really got some great insight from this class and retained all of the necessary safety training. Although I personaly have had my hunting license for over 30 years I found it very useful having a refresher course. Here are some pictures of 10 year old Benjamin hunting in the 2006 dove opener. On opening morning Benjamin bagged 2 whitewings using a 410 gauge single shot. I will never forget that moment or the smile on Bens face. Thanks again, John Stock.

Thanks Richard.. Went hunting on Thursday, got this Black Hawaiian out in Redlands.. He was up on a ridge about 400 yards away 150 ft above me. Got down prone, aimed about a foot over his head just up from heart and lung, hit him through and through hip to hip. Immediately laid down, took about 1-2 min for the head to fall. Unfortunately he rolled off of a cliff he was standing near. Only took one shot. The rancher couldn't believe it, he watched the shot from behind me and said he wished he had it on tape. I ordered a new fixed 10x tactical scope this week, wish I had that for the shot.
I was using a Remington 673 with a Nikon 3-9x40 buckmaster scope and Federal Power-shok 180 grain .308 ammunition. I have a new rifle on the way right now from Virginia (see pic), Remington 700 SPS tactical and a brand new SWFA 10x42mm Super Sniper tactical scope (see pic).. Can't wait to get that rifle. I'm going to immediately send the bolt out for a tactical bolt knob and to change the angle. I should be spot on after that. I've been practicing a lot with my mil-dot ranging and windage and elevation calculations. I just got lucky on Thursday with the 3-9x40..
Thanks for your time.

I just wanted to send a quick note regarding a class my son and I attended on 7/28/2007. I want to let you know that my 12 yr. old son and I took the hunter safety class at Prado Shooting range on 7/28/2007 given by your instructor Bo Greger. I want to let you know he is an outstanding instuctor. He covered the material passionately , clearly and added personal hunting experiences which made the material much more relevant. For example, my 12yr. old son scored a 97 on the test, due in large part to the way the material was presented by Bo. Your website advertised your classes as being family oriented, and this is very much the case. I will take additional classes offered by your organization soon, such as the NRA class, as well as recommend to anyone interested in taking a hunter safety class that they take one offered by your organization and taught by Bo.Thank you for the incredible experience.
PS. You may, if you want use this email on your website as a testimonial to your organization if you wish.

Sincerly,

Dan Baudino
