Basic Fundamentals Courses
NRA Basic Pistol
The NRA Basic Pistol course emphasizes the attitude, knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle a pistol/revolver. The course emphasizes safety and the basic fundamentals of shooting including grip, aiming, sight picture control, trigger squeeze and follow through. Students will learn how to identify different types of handguns, how each type functions, the loading and unloading procedures and possible firearm malfunctions for each type. Students will also learn how to identify the correct ammunition for a firearm and the nomenclature used in ammunition identification as well as the procedures required to deal with ammunition malfunctions. A supervised and coached live fire exercise ensures students properly grasp all learning objectives. Ammunition and low recoil pistols are provided. Students will see a significant improvement between the first and last shot. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the live-fire section and a written examination. NRA First Steps Pistol
NRA FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training) STEPS is designed for new shooters. The course provides hands-on orientation with specific pistol models, preferably yours in as little as three hours. This course is available for in-home training only. No live-fire! NRA Basic Rifle
The NRA Basic Rifle course emphasizes the attitude, knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle a rifle and the basic shooting fundamentals of rifle shooting. This is a very intensive course that will greatly improve your shooting skills whether you are a beginner or intermediate shooter. The course emphasizes safety and the basic fundamentals of shooting including positions, grip, aiming, sight picture control, trigger squeeze and follow through. Students will learn how to identify different types of rifles and how each type functions. A supervised and coached live fire exercise ensures students properly grasp all learning objectives. Ammunition and low recoil rifles are provided. Students will see a significant improvement between the first and last shot. NRA Basic Shotgun
Shotgun shooting is a fun and rewarding experience. This class will introduce you to the world of shotgun shooting and its techniques. Course topics include How Your Shotgun Works, Ammunition, Selecting a Shotgun, Safety, Caring For Your Shotgun, Fundamentals of Shotgun Shooting, Advanced Shooting Skills and Shotgun Shooting Opportunities. The live fire portion of the class will be conducted at an outdoor shotgun range where you will get the opportunity to shoot clays out of the air. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Students are encouraged to bring their own shotgun. If you do not have your own, a 12 guage pump action shotgun will be provided. Ammunition will NOT be provided for this course and may be purchased at the shooting facilities the day of the course. Approximately 50 shotgun shells will be required. NRA Home Firearm Safety
If you have firearms in the home, this course is a must. Course topics include The Elements of Gun Safety, Identifying and Unloading Different Firearms. Types of Ammunition, Cleaning and Storage. This is a non-shooting course.
